for right in this city center. it left lots of damage in its wa wake, blowing out first and second floor windows at the medical center and the roof at the high school. there are no deaths but tens of thousands are without electricity. it sent customers running for cover. >> he looked out the windows and said there is a tornado coming. i looked out, saw the debris flying around, got everybody and the customers an said, we need to run to the back and everybody huddle down. >> i probably hurt my baby grabbing her running for protection. there was no time. >> reporter: the twister was from a massive storm that stretched across the nation. earlier, a tornado touched down near mcneil, mississippi and sever people were hurt with minor injuries. and one destroyed a feed store and in texas, a driver was killed trying to remove another limb from the road and it caused a white christmas in the dallas area and in lubbock, texas looked like a winter wonderland. it could cause more problems later in the week as it moves east. birmingham, alabama. >> dillon will tell us where the storm is in a few minu

ginger zee. ginger, good evening. >> good evening, david. it's blustery here in the city. in other places, they'll pick up 2 or 6 inches of snow. just wait. this is all on top of some spots that saw record numbers this week. as millions of us return from family gatherings or for new festivities, another snowstorm is thwarted our track. in king of push sha, they were skidding. near harrisburg, pennsylvania, two tractor-trailers crashed. slowing traffic to a crawl. the speed limit on about 300 miles of the pennsylvania turnpike was shaved to 45 miles per hour. hundreds of flights were canceled. delays from philadelphia to those stranded at the airports. in scranton, pennsylvania. in yankee stadium, a sloppy mess for syracuse and byu in that pinstripe bowl. here in syracuse, another winter blast. no break from all of this storm. almost a foot fell on thursday and now a couple more inches falling today. we have our ruler here, about 12 inches of snow on the ground. now, we're used to snow syracuse. but we haven't seen this much on the ground in two years. >> reporter: for most, the snow is mo

city, cold for albany, into boston, even into new hampshire. temperatures are going to be cold tonight, down into the teens for the most part. vermont, you did very well. i know that depends on your point of view, but for killington, for sugar bush, for the ski resorts there, almost two feet of new snow in a place that has been very hard hit by a lack of snow the past couple years. but in vermont so far, 21 inches of snow. tomorrow, we get another storm that moves up to the northeast, believe it or not, right up to new york. it's going to be a storm that runs right along the spine of 32 degree weather. so could even see some ice and sleet from memphis back up to new york city by saturday. it's a storm that's going to start in the south, just like the last one did. i don't expect severe weather, just rain here with this one, but then as it runs up the northeast coast, almost a nor'easter but not quite, we will see snow even into new york city. by saturday night, it could be three inches, and at least it's good that it's saturday and not on a friday or monday when you're trying to get so
